Bulawayo’s Craft Beer Scene Is Quietly Booming

Tucked behind the old railway yards, a handful of passionate brewers are turning Bulawayo into Zimbabwe’s most surprising craft beer destination. Small-batch ales brewed with locally sourced sorghum and wild honey are drawing visitors from Harare and beyond.

At the heart of this movement is the monthly Bulawayo Brewers Market, held every first Saturday at Large City Hall Car Park. More than a dozen vendors set up stalls offering everything from golden lagers to deep-amber stouts, accompanied by live marimba music and street food.

We wanted to show that Zimbabwe has a brewing culture that goes back centuries. We are just modernising it.

The trend is part of a broader revival of artisan food and beverage production in the city, which is also seeing growth in specialty coffee roasters and farm-to-table restaurants. For visitors and locals alike, Bulawayo’s new craft scene offers a compelling reason to linger a little longer.
